Íslandssaga hf. (Icelandic saga) was established in December 1999, building upon a rich, long-standing heritage of seafood processing on the Westfjords. Seafood processing operations in Suðureyri date back to the early 20th century. Today, Íslandssaga specializes in the processing of premium Atlantic cod, haddock, and Atlantic wolffish. The company yields both fresh and frozen seafood products for international export, catering equally to the North American and European markets.

For years, the company has maintained a leading market position in the exportation of fresh fish from the Westfjords. Through consistent performance, Íslandssaga’s products have earned a distinguished reputation for quality among distributors and consumers alike. This success is directly attributable to a highly skilled and experienced workforce. Both operational staff and management remain strictly committed to meeting the stringent quality standards required for premium fresh fish production.

The Westfjords command access to Iceland’s most bountiful fishing grounds, ensuring a highly efficient supply chain with minimal transit times for raw materials. The processing facility’s strategic harbor-side location optimizes logistics and operational efficiency. Driven by a commitment to sustainability, virtually all raw materials are fully utilized to maximize yield and eliminate waste. Notably, the specialized fish-drying facility Klofningur processes a significant portion of the primary production by-products.

Íslandssaga acts as a catalyst for economic growth and prosperity within the local business community. Management operates on the principle of mutual success, recognizing that the company’s growth is fundamentally linked to the prosperity of local enterprises. Consequently, the company strategically invests in affiliated local businesses. By maintaining equity in neighboring firms, Íslandssaga fosters a diversified labor market, providing versatile career opportunities that encourage families to remain within the community. Through these initiatives, the company actively fulfills its corporate social responsibility (CSR).

Íslandssaga is a private limited company owned by Útgerðarfélagið Norðureyri ehf. The parent company is primarily owned by native residents of Suðureyri, whose generational history is deeply intertwined with the village itself, and who continue to uphold a legacy of community investment and social responsibility.
